My Gem

The bomb came straight from Hell,
And tore my world apart;
It left me reeling in the dust,
And left a shattered heart.

The precious gem I treasured,
Now at my feet lay marred;
The bomb had done its damage,
Forever it would be scarred.

Once purity is removed,
Nothing can bring it back;
It can be polished and set again,
But natural luster it will lack.

I didn't guard it carefully,
This gem that God gave to me.
Please keep it safe from more ruin,
This is my earnest plea.
